A PLATINUM AUTOMATIC WORLD TIME WRISTWATCH WITH GREEN ENAMEL DIAL – MADE FOR MECCA.

This limited edition of reference 5130 was manufactured in 150 pieces only in platinum, with an emerald green center disc and “MECCA” printed in green on the dial (in place of Moscow)

This watch was designated for the Saudi Arabia market. The emerald green on the dial is special since green is considered the traditional color of Islam.  It was used by Muhammad’s tribe as the color of their flag. The Qu’ran describes the garments and cushions in paradise as made of green silk, and green is often used in mosques as well as coverings of the Qu-ran.  In addition, green is also the color of Saudi Arabia’s flag.

The Ref. 5130 is often chosen to have special city edition due to the nature/function of this model.  On top of this ‘Mecca’ edition, there are examples such as ‘Dubai’ edition made for the Patek Philippe exclusive retailer Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, and ‘Shanghai’ edition for the opening of Shanghai Patek Philipp center.  However, none of these special edition watches carry the gorgeous dial color such as the Ref. 5130 ‘Mecca’.

The local time indicated by the hour and minute hands applies to the location on the city disk that is directly aligned with 12 o’clock. The crown is used to set the correct time in conjunction with the 24-hour ring, so a distinction can be made between 4 am and 4 pm. Now, switching from one time zone to another is accomplished simply by pressing the button at 10 o’clock. Every time it is pressed, the hour hand will advance by one hour while the city ring and the 24-hour ring will rotate counter-clockwise by one hour (equivalent to one time zone). Pressing the button 24 times emulates a trip around the world and a return to the point of departure.
