The 40mm diameter three-body case, downturned lugs, bracelet, and angled bezel are polished/brushed. The dial is black with luminous applied white gold Arabic numeral hour indices at the quarter hours, luminous painted Arabic numeral minute markers every five minutes, and a luminous triangle at the 12 oclock position. It has luminous steel "Mercedes" style Rolex hour and minute hands, and a green center sweep seconds hand with a luminous "lollipop" indicator. The dial has the glowing Chromalight display with long-lasting blue luminescence. The movement is fitted with an antimagnetic shield, a traditional feature of 1930s pilots watches, making it insensitive to 1000 gauss. It has a power reserve of 48-hours at full winding, and its water resistant to 100 meters/330 feet. The dial bears the name Air-King in the same lettering that was designed specially for the model in the 1950s, and this watch has the Certified Official Superlative Chronometer (COSC) rating. The bracelet includes the Rolex Easylink rapid extension system.
The Rolex Air King 116900 has a mechanical automatic Rolex caliber movement thats rhodium-plated, with fausses cotes and oeil-de-perdrix embellishment. Its constructed with 31 jewels, a monometallic balance thats adjusted to temperature and 5 positions, and a shock absorber device. The straight-line lever escapement utilizes a paramagnetic escape wheel made from an electroformed nickel-phosphorus alloy. It has bidirectional self-winding via a perpetual rotor, and the oscillator has an antimagnetic Rolex blue Parachrom hairspring. It includes a Rolex overcoil regulator. It has a self-compensating free-sprung Breguet balance spring, Microstella regulating screws, and a hacking seconds mechanism for precision time setting.
