PORTUGUESE AUTOMATIC EDITION “TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL 2013” When IWC was casting for a special watch edition to honor the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival, one candidate stood out above the rest. Its elegant look, combined with an impressive repertoire of technical features, made it the ideal protagonist for the leading role in IWC’s tribute to Tribeca. With the Portuguese Automatic Edition “TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL 2013”, Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen underscores its commitment as the Official ‘Festival-Time’ Partner of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. “We’re proud that we now have a clear connection with the film-making industry in the country that was home to our founder, Florentine Ariosto Jones,” says IWC CEO Georges Kern, “It means we can make a contribution to storytelling at a local level.” The Festival has screened more than 1,400 films from over 80 countries since its inception in 2002. It was founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff in 2001, following the attacks on the World Trade Center, to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of the lower Manhattan district. “We are delighted that IWC has dedicated this beautiful timepiece to the Tribeca Film Festival,” says President and COO Jon Patricof. “This is an exciting new relationship with a world class partner who is as passionate about the basic idea behind the Festival—which is supporting the city and industry we care about so deeply—as we are.” DYNAMIC STAGING OF A STYLE ICON The Portuguese Automatic Edition “TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL 2013”, whose timeless elegance is matched by its technical perfection, makes a grand entrance as an example of classically beautiful watchmaking at its finest. With outstanding mechanical features, including the Pellaton winding system, 7-day power reserve, and date display, it demonstrates that greatness is not only a question of size. The 50000-caliber family of large IWC-manufactured movements was originally developed for the Portuguese Automatic to mark the start of the new millennium, and once again featured the Pellaton winding system and 7-day power reserve. The movement subsequently received a date display, which has made the Portuguese more practical for everyday use. With its small seconds display at “9 o’clock” and its power reserve display on the opposite side of the dial at “3 o’clock” – both claret-colored –, the special edition commemorating the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival sets the tone for a spectacular event. The hands, numerals, and hour markers set against the slate-colored dial are rhodium plated, and the see-through sapphire-glass back provides an unimpeded view of the fascinating movement. The 18-carat gold medallion bears the logo of the Tribeca Film Festival and the milled lettering “One out of 100” is a reminder that only very few watch lovers will be able to secure this extra-special edition.
