A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Moon Phase "Doppelfederhaus" Up/Down with Day/Night Indicator "Second Generation" in 18kt White Gold, Gorgeous Black Dial with Solid-Gold Luminous Hour & Power-Reserve Markers, Solid-Gold Appliques and Hour Markers and Rhodiumed Hands.
This masterpiece features an outsize-date aperture between 1 & 2 oclock; power reserve display at 3 oclock; small seconds subdial with inset moon phase aperture between 4 & 5 oclock. A separate solid-gold moon pursues its orbit in the foreground. Behind it, a celestial disc – also made of solid gold – performs exactly one revolution every 24 hours. On the disc, the different times of day are represented by varying blue hues created by the effects of the second disc contrasting against the first one. During the day, it shows a bright sky without stars, while at night it depicts a dark sky with prominently contrasting stars. Thus, the moon always orbits against a realistic background that doubles as a day/night indicator when setting the watch.
The moon is, as usual with Lange, very precise, as it takes 122.6 years for the display to deviate from the true synodic period by just one day. This A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Moonphase has a mechanical manual winding A.L.S. caliber L 121.3. Its rhodium plated ¾ plate with cotes de Genève embellishment, and its constructed with a straight-line lever escapement, 43 jewels, eight gold chatons, 368 components, a swan neck regulator, and A. Lange & Sohne’s own free-sprung balance made to a chronometric standard. It includes a precision beat adjustment system with a lateral setscrew and a whiplash spring. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz). In the A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Moon Phase, the moon phase complication is elevated to an art form, a mesmerizing display that captivates and delights, marrying the ancestral allure of moon tracking with cutting-edge watchmaking. It is a celebration of the night skys eternal beauty, rendered with the exquisite craftsmanship and innovation that are hallmarks of the A. Lange & Söhne Legacy. Reference No. 192.029
