Patek Philippe 5070R Chronograph – Rose Gold 42mm Silver Dial - Discontinued Model

The Patek Philippe 5070R is a true icon among modern chronographs, a watch that embodies the maison’s dedication to traditional haute horology with a presence that commands attention. Released in the early 2000s and discontinued in 2008, the 5070R is part of a lineage that began in 1998, when the reference debuted to honor Patek Philippe’s return to producing hand-wound chronographs after a 30-year hiatus. The warm tone of 18k rose gold is perfectly matched to a silvery opaline dial.

The watch features a bold 42mm case, which was unusually large for its time and gives the 5070 a distinctive, modern wrist presence while still retaining classical proportions. Its stepped bezel and pump-style chronograph pushers nod to mid-20th-century Patek chronographs, while the elongated lugs help balance the size elegantly. The silver dial showcases applied rose gold Arabic numerals, leaf-style hands, and two recessed sub-dials for continuous seconds and a 30-minute counter. Surrounding the dial is a printed tachymeter scale, adding a sporty yet refined instrument feel.

Movement

Inside beats the Patek Philippe Caliber CH 27-70, a hand-wound, column-wheel chronograph movement based on the renowned Lemania 2310 ébauche, extensively modified, finished, and decorated by Patek Philippe to their exacting standards. It operates at 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5 Hz) and offers a 58-hour power reserve. The movement is celebrated for its traditional architecture, with a lateral clutch and beautiful Geneva stripes, anglage, and polished screw heads, all visible through the sapphire display back.

The 5070R was produced for only a few years before the reference was retired, replaced by the smaller 5170. Its short production run, large case, and timeless styling make it highly desirable among collectors. Alongside the yellow (J), white (G), and platinum (P) versions, the rose gold edition stands out for its warmth and versatility, pairing as well with formal attire as with casual elegance.
