Breguet Marine ’Horloger de la Marine’ Automatic Titanium 40mm with Gorgeous Sunburst Blue Roman Luminescent Dial. Scratch Resistant Sapphire Crystal. The 40mm diameter solid two-body titanium case with a coin-edge band, downturned screwed lapidated lugs, and stepped convex bezel, are brushed and polished. The dial is a Blue dial with a fine sunray finish. There are applied solid Roman Numeral hour markers with luminous fill. There is a perimeter minute/second scale with pip hour indices and luminous dot markers. There is a date aperature at 3 o’clock. The Faceted "observatoire" style Breguet hands have luminous indicators and there is a center sweep seconds hand with a counterbalance. It’s water resistant to 100 meters/330 feet. It has a 55-hour power reserve at full wind, and the case, dial, and movement are all signed. Fitted on a Breguet Marine Blue Vulcanized Rubber Strap with a fold-over deployant buckle.

The Breguet Marine ’Horloger de la Marine’ Automatic in titanium is a striking blend of modern technology and classic design. Measuring 40mm in diameter, the solid two-body titanium case is both brushed and polished, with Breguet’s signature coin-edge band and downturned, screwed lapidated lugs. The stepped convex bezel adds a refined touch, while the case’s robust construction ensures water resistance up to 100 meters (330 feet), making it a versatile piece for daily wear and adventure.

The dial is a gorgeous sunburst blue, radiating elegance with its fine sunray finish that catches light at every angle. Adorning the dial are applied Roman numeral hour markers, each filled with luminous material for optimal legibility in low-light conditions. A perimeter minute/second scale with pip hour indices and luminous dot markers further enhances the functional beauty of this timepiece. The date aperture at 3 o’clock provides a practical complication, while the faceted "observatoire" style Breguet hands, equipped with luminous indicators, and a center sweep seconds hand with a counterbalance, ensure precise timekeeping.

Inside, the Breguet caliber 777A movement powers the timepiece with impressive precision. This self-winding mechanical movement is equipped with an inverted in-line lever escapement with silicon horns, providing superior resistance to magnetism and wear. The rhodium-plated movement is beautifully adorned with fausses cotes embellishment and features a gold rotor, engine-turned with a sunray pattern. Constructed with 26 jewels and 179 components, the movement includes a shock absorber device, a monometallic balance adjusted to five positions, and a self-compensating flat silicon balance spring for enhanced accuracy. The movement oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz), ensuring smooth and precise performance.

Titanium, symbolized as Ti on the periodic table with atomic number 22, is a remarkable metal known for its unique combination of strength, lightness, and resistance to corrosion. In the world of watchmaking, titanium is a rare and prestigious choice due to its exceptional properties. While most luxury watches are crafted from stainless steel, gold, or platinum, the use of titanium is often reserved for more exclusive timepieces like the Breguet Marine ’Horloger de la Marine’. Its low density and high tensile strength make it incredibly durable, yet lightweight, which is ideal for wearers who want a robust watch without the heft of heavier metals.

Outside the world of horology, titanium is a vital material in the aerospace and automotive industries, where performance and efficiency are paramount. In aeronautics, titanium is used in aircraft components, jet engines, and spacecraft due to its ability to withstand extreme temperatures, its strength, and its lightweight nature. These qualities are critical in reducing the overall weight of an aircraft, improving fuel efficiency, and increasing payload capacity. Similarly, in the automotive industry, especially in high-performance and luxury vehicles, titanium is used in engine parts, exhaust systems, and even body frames to enhance strength while minimizing weight, leading to faster, more efficient cars.

Its use in these demanding fields underscores why titanium is so prized in watchmaking: it provides unparalleled durability, a sleek aesthetic, and comfort on the wrist, all while maintaining a feather-light feel. This rare combination of toughness and lightness makes titanium watches like the Breguet Marine a statement piece of both engineering and elegance, appreciated by collectors who recognize the craftsmanship behind using such a versatile and high-performance metal.
