Patek Philippe 5960 Stainless Steel Silvery Opaline Dial Annual Calendar Chronograph in Stainless Steel A totally new Patek Philippe chronograph: the long awaited first ever Patek Philippe self winding Annual Calendar Chronograph introduced in Stainless Steel. The Patek Philippe 5960 will go down as one of Patek’s most important watches in my opinion. Continue reading to learn why the 5960 breaks so much historical ground for Patek. First, though, the platinum and rose gold 5960 production is finished. Patek is wrapping up 5960 production with this fantastic looking stainless steel model, on steel bracelet, very much a sporty watch. The reference 5960 is a statement from the legendary and independent Swiss firm; a testament to Patek’s heritage, a reflection of Patek’s confidence in its leadership position in the industry, and a glimpse at the future, all in one spectacular wristwatch. The movement in the 5960 is Patek Philippe’s first automatic chronograph in their 175 year blue-ribbon history. It’s also Patek’s first flyback chronograph. And, due to the caliber’s unique construction, the central chronograph seconds hand can be operated continuously (to serve as a conventional seconds hand) without harming the mechanism or adversely affecting accuracy. The 5960 also features the first completely in-house chronograph caliber from Patek since the early 1980s. (In the interim years, all of Patek’s chronograph calibers have been built from Nouvelle Lemania ebauches). Finally, this chronograph is the first to feature the 30 minute and 12 hour chronograph indicators in the same subdial. So clearly, Patek has innovated meaningfully with their automatic winding Caliber CH28-520/521. This masterpiece also provides an annual calendar, with the day, date and month displays arranged in an arc from 10 o’clock to 2 o’clock. Within the chronograph subdial there is a small aperture which displays a day/night indicator. To round out the complications, a power reserve indicator is located just underneath the date window. Dial is white and black with applied hour markers with adjacent luminous dots and luminous hands. The chronograph subdial is oversized, and accordingly very legible. Chronograph hands are red, which imparts a very sporty touch. – Mechanical self-winding movement – Caliber CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H – Annual Calendar – Chronograph – 60-minute and 12-hour mono counter – Day, date and month in apertures – Silvery opaline dial with blackened gold applied hour markers – Steel bracelet with fold-over clasp – Sapphire-crystal case back – Water resistant to 30 m – Steel – Case diameter: 40.5 mm
